Cihangir (Turkey/Germany)


All-round artist and producer Cihangir Gümüstürkmen was born in the Turkish port of Izmir. He lives in Berlin. His experimental dance blends contemporary styles and classic oriental styles from Egypt and Turkey. He has performed in numerous shows in Germany and abroad with dancers from Spain, India and Africa.

Cihangir dances, sings and acts. He writes plays, paints pictures and designs costumes. He created the comic strip “Lale Lokum & Fatma Souad” in 2006 and wrote a number of articles about oriental dance in the Ottoman Empire (published in Tanz Oriental). His CD “Cihangir’s Black Bird” was released in 2005 followed by his dance DVD “Belly Dance with Cihangir” in 2006.
